Method 1: Check your Hard Drive 

  1. In the beginning, head to the Windows Start menu. 
  2. Now, type File Explorer into the Search bar and then open File Explorer. 
  3. You need to select My Computer or This PC from the navigation bar. 
  4. After this, hit right-click on the hard drive icon and this is usually named as C: drive.
  5. At last, choose the Properties option, and then you’ll be able to see how much free space you have in the window. 

Method 2: Create Appropriate Space on your Hard Drive

Step 1: Run Disk Cleanup

To delete temporary files:

  1. Initially, you need to type disk cleanup into the search box on the taskbar and then choose the Disk Cleanup option from the list of results.
  2. Now, select the drive you wish to clean up, and then press OK.
  3. Under the Files to Delete window, opt for the file types you’d like to remove. To get a description of the file type, you must click on a particular file type.
  4. Press the OK button at the end to finish clearing space for the QuickBooks disc.

If you need to free up more space, then you can also remove system files as well. Below are the actions you need to take for this:

  1. At first, choose to Clean up system files in Disk Cleanup.
  2. Now, select the file types to read their description and go with the one you wish to delete.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Files from the (%temp%) folder
  1. To start off, navigate to the file path C:\Users \Username \AppData \Local \Temp on your system.
  2. Next, hold and press Ctrl + A keys on your keyboard to choose all the files in the Temp folder.
  3. Click Delete and tap on Yes for confirmation.
  4. Once you delete all the files, try installing the QuickBooks Desktop once again.
Step 3: Remove the Programs you don’t use
  1. The very first step is to navigate to the Control Panel from the desktop or the Start menu.
  2. Now, hit the Programs and Features tab.
  3. Herein, you’ll get an Uninstall a program option.
  4. After this, choose it and search for the applications you have to uninstall.
  5. Follow all on-screen prompts and successfully remove such programs.
  6. To finish, clear the space and verify whether you still get the “there is not enough memory or disk space to complete the operation” error or not. 

Note: Once you delete any files, don’t forget to empty the Recycle Bin to completely remove them from your device and free up space.

To transfer photos, music, videos, or other files that you want to keep but don't use very often, it is required to save them to an external storage device like a USB drive or an SD card. You can still use them when the drive is connected, but they won't take up space on your PC.

  1. First of all, connect an external storage device like a USB drive or SD card to your PC.
  2. Next, navigate to File Explorer from the taskbar and access the folder that contains the files you’d like to move.
  3. Choose the files and then click Cut on the ribbon and+ go to the location of the external storage device you connected then hit the Paste tab.
